Heart Reef is a naturally occurring coral formation in Hardy Reef, sitting roughly 70 km off the coast of Airlie Beach. It can only be seen from the air — there are no boat tours and no snorkelling permitted on the reef itself — which makes a scenic flight the only way to experience it.
Discovered by a Air Whitsunday pilot in 1975, Heart Reef has become one of Australia's most photographed natural landmarks. Most flights pair Heart Reef with a low pass over Hardy Reef, Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach, giving you the three signature Whitsundays shots in a single trip.
